M.A. Facchiano Construction

M.A. Facchiano Construction recently approached A&H with a new project: Clean UNDER Pittsburgh bridges! Facchiano was recently awarded a contract by PennDOT’s District 11-0 that in part requires them to thoroughly clean PennDOT owned bridges in Allegheny County top to bottom.

As you can imagine, over the years a considerable amount of dirt and debris can accumulate in all the nooks and crannies of our areas bridges as well as in the bridges “scuppers” (drains).  If not removed, this material can hasten the deterioration of the bridge.

After reviewing the challenges of the project, A&H rented them a PD Combination unit with a suction hose assembly that split the 8" suction hose into 3 separate 4" hoses. Reducing the hose diameter allowed light weight Kanaflex hose to be strung from the bridge deck and down to an under bridge mobile platform.

Workers descend under the bridge via the under bridge inspection platform. The suction and handgun lines are lowered to them. There Facchiano workers use the hand gun hoses to blast years of accumulated dirt and use the suction hoses to suck material up into the debris body! The 4” suction hose is light and each can be easily managed by one man as he is suspended below the bridge.
